I lived in Austin for 17 years and I feel lucky to have gotten to see him live at the Aqua festival.

I did not know him, but some of my friends had known him for years - they all described him as a kind and loving person, not just a greatly talented musician.

While I really enjoy his guitar playing, I really dislike the effect of his legacy on guitar playing. There are far too many "Vaughan-a-bees" trying to play 'blues' just like him and coming up short. This has left blues stagnant ever since his tragic death.

I never had the chance to listen to his music but I know for a fact it has to be good. Even to this day you hear his music on the radio.

I awoke in a hotel in Korea one early Fall morning. To keep in touch with home I switched on CNN. The screen began to glow and I recognized that all-too-familiar scene, a newsperson with a celebrity's image over his shoulder. It could mean only on thing ... SRV was gone. I sat in shock, recalling how I had seen him live three times, and how full of life he always was.

I don't think I'll ever forget that scene. I know I'll always have those great memories that he created: the live shows, the concert videos, Double Trouble featuring Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon, the truly amazing guitarwork, the raw emotion, and so much more.

Thanks for recalling this awesome performer.
